California Dentistry Board Examination Extended for Foreign trained Dentist. Greetings! I have good news! Two good news in fact. 1. A legislation in California was recently enacted extending the deadline of the closing of the Restorative Technique Examinations (also known as Part 3 of the 4-part California Board Exams. Part 3 was supposed to close at the end of year 2002 but now, it will not close until the end of year 2003. Part 3 is the main" highway" for the entry of foreign-trained dentists to the practice of dentistry in California. The extension was a result of a political problem associated with the Board of Dentistry and also of the pressure placed on them by the Coalition of Ethnic Minority Dental Societies, of which the Southern California Filipino Dental Society is a prominent leading member. The politics behind the issues are too long to discuss here so I am planning to fly to Manila at the end of November of early December barring any unforeseen world political events, to discuss the licensing process in California. As soon as my travel plans are final, I will let you know so you can post a notice in your site inviting people to attend. There is no cost to attend the meeting. 2) The other good news. The State of Minnesota recently passed legislation that will allow foreign-trained dentists access to their licensing process. This is really God sent. When California closes at the end of year 2003, we still have Minnesota to go to. This State is very pretty, the lakes (10,000 of them) are very nice and the people are very accommodating. The only bummer are the very frigid winters. But, really can't have everything isn't it? Ed de la Vega, DDS
