By
Ed dela Vega, DDS
The
Southern California Filipino Dental Society Choral Group accepted an invitation
from the PDA to perform at the PDA Convention in April-May 2001. The group will
render the National Anthem during opening ceremonies on April 29th and will also
perform at the President's Night on May 5th. The SCFDS has been in existence for
12 years and has performed for the Academy of Dentistry International in Orlando
Florida, the Academy of General Dentistry in Portland, Oregon, at California
Dental Association Annual Meeting in Sacramento and at the October 2000 ADA
Convention in Chicago. At Chicago, they earned the distinction of being the very
first ethnic minority dental society to be given a slot to perform during an ADA
convention. They also have under their belt performances in Boston, New Orleans,
Las Vegas, Honolulu, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and at the PDA
President's Night in 1998. The group is composed of 40 members who routinely
meet to sing and have fun once a month.
