MCUDAA HOLDS FIRST GENERAL ASSEMBLY

Ratifies Constitution

MCUDAA is now a legitimate association with its newly ratified constitution. More than one hundred MCU dental alumni gathered together last May 11, 1999 at the Trader’s Hotel, Manila for this very important event in the association’s history. The general assembly started at 12:30 in the afternoon with a welcome speech by Dr. Cristina G. Garcia, our incumbent president.

The welcome remarks of Dr. Garcia was also the Presidents report for the achievement of the association for our different projects such as the sponsorship of Side A Band concert, conducting free dental clinic in our adopted community, creation our own website in the internet, launching of our first ever publication of our newsletter titled Scintilla, donations of cash to the college of dentistry for the centennial celebration, donation of office equipment to the faculty club of MCU College of Dentistry, our free lunch to the general assembly and many more projects that has been calendared for the year.

Dr. Eileen T. Olaivar presented the financial statement for the Fiscal Year 1998-1999. There was an air of surprise and amazement over the room when Dr. Olaivar mentioned that the association had a meager amount of three thousand pesos (Php 3,000.00) during the first year of its rebirth but managed to raise a sufficient amount of funds to keep the association going strong.  The financial statement was noted for its clarity and transparency.

The gathering was also attended by Dr. Feliciana Reyes the Vice President for academic affairs and also our Dental Alumni Director. Dr. Reyes talk about  that MCU will be supporting any endeavor that the association will do which the crowd answered with a big applause.

All the members of the association overwhelmingly voted for the ratification of the constitution which was critically prepared and analyzed by the group of officers headed by our president Dr. Cristina Garcia. The MCUDAA will be registered to the SEC very soon. Graduates from 1958 to 1998 attended the assembly.

For most of the alumni, it was a time for meeting old friends and reminiscing some good old college memories. Some of the prominent dental practitioners who are MCU graduates like Dr. Rufino Achacoso, Dr. Ruben C. Navia, Dr. Mike Fontanilla and Dr. Jose Virata graced the affair.

The overwhelming response and achievement of the first general assembly will not be a success thru tireless and unselfish service of the men and women of the Manila Central University Dental Alumni Association. Special mention should be given to Dr. Rosario S. Pascual and Dr. Lucito Sison for their invaluable effort.JCG
