"Kingdom of God"
What’s the secret to living a godly life in this world of constantly
changing values? When I think about this, it reminds me of a friend who
grew up on a farm. They plowed the fields with a mule pulling a plow. His
father was teaching him how to plow and told him the importance of plowing
a straight furrow. The way you do this is by keeping your eyes on an
object at the other end of the furrow and walk towards the mark. His
father left him to plow the field and when he returned to check on him
sometime later, he found the furrows were crooked. The father asked him if
he didn’t understand that he had to pick out a mark and plow toward it.
The young son told his dad that he did understand that and that he had
picked out Bess, the cow, as his mark and he had walked toward her the
whole time. The problem was that Bess wandered here and there in the field
and the son followed her everywhere she went. The father had to explain
the importance of picking out an immovable object as your mark. This will
keep your furrows straight. I think that there is a spiritual lesson in
this for all of us. If we desire to walk the straight and narrow path in
our effort to follow god’s ways then we must keep our eyes on Jesus. He is
the solid rock that is the same yesterday, today and forever. Don’t try to
follow man made ideas of morality and righteousness nor even the shifting
sands of church theology but keep your eyes on Jesus Christ, our Lord and
Savior.
